My wife and I were riding the river legacy trail Sunday morning (8/17) and saw a group of 15 ibis wading around in a tight little group in the wetland vegetation on the Viridian property. We were at mile marker 4. They were pretty far away, but one was very pink in color and caught my eye even at a distance. I thought they were spoonbills at first because of the pink, but on closer inspection with the binoculars, we could clearly see the reddish-orange legs and long curved bills, and black wing patches. As I say, some were mostly pink (as opposed to white or scarlet). So, what’s the deal? Are these pink ibises a hybrid variety? Have you seen them?

I have seen night herons flying over my neighborhood in south davis off lovers lane. We have also had a pair of mallards take up residence on west lovers in a neighbors yard. I will try to send pics. thank you, Samantha Jones
